If you have just gotten a new car but you didn't trade in your old one and it still has plenty of good years on it, you may wonder what you can do with it. If you don't have a driver for it, the car may just sit around, costing you money. Donate to Charity

One thing you can do is to donate your car to charity. There are a number of charities that you can choose to donate to. You can check with local thrift shops to see if they accept vehicles. Some thrift stores will accept the cars and then advertise the car for sale. Other places you can check include local public broadcasting radio and television stations. They may accept a vehicle during their fundraising drives. They will be able to either sell the car to raise money or convert it into scrap metal and get money for it that way. If you decide to donate it to charity, make sure that you get a receipt for the value of the car. That way you can claim the car as a deduction on your taxes at the end of the year. 

Donate to School

Another thing you can do is to donate to a local high school or trade school if they offer an auto body program, like Newgate School. The students in those programs need to have cars to work on. It can be expensive for schools to buy the cars that they need in order to give their students the experience that they need to learn what they are doing. This is especially true if your local school system is cash-strapped. The nice thing about donating to a school with an auto mechanics program is that it doesn't matter if the car isn't in 100% tip-top shape. If there are problems with the car, then it gives the students something to work on, so it works out for everyone. You may be able to get a deduction on your taxes if you donate the car to a trade school, so you will want to make sure you get a receipt to keep for your records.
